Shropshire Star Review - A Magical Sunday PDF Print E-mail

Blakelands country house lies in the ehart of the Staffordshire countryside in Halfpenny Green, Bobbington and there is only one word to sun it up 'magical'.

By Suzanna Reade of the Shropshire Star

Set within acres of grounds it is undoubtedly one of the finest country houses in the region.
The 17th Century Grade two listed country house provides a relaxing atmosphere bringing a sense of occasion to any event.
We visited last Sunday (surely the most miserable day of the month weather wise) to celebrate my Fathers birthday.
As our car drew up at the entrance a smiling young lady came outside into the rain to welcome us inside to sit by a roaring fire, located in the lounge where a waiter brought us drinks and the menu to peruse.
The Sunday luncheon menu offers a set three course meal ranging from £18.00-£21.00, excellent value for money. Starters included The Lodge Leek & Potato soup, Chilled fresh melon with red berry coulis and Mini Salmon fishcakes & tarter sauce.
To follow was Roasted Topside of Pattingham Beef (Yorkshire Pudding & creamed horseradish), Pan Fried Chicken (Free range from Shropshire with red wine & mushrooms), Salmon fillet rolled in a lemon herb crust (with a sauce of dry Rioja and cream) Vegetarians are amply catered for and the choice of fish is varied.
Piping hot dishes of fresh vegetables were placed on the table and included roast and new potatoes, sprouts, savoy cabbage and diced swede.
All meat, poultry and ingredients are sourced from local suppliers to Blakelands and they proud themselves on this fact.
To finish there was a wonderful selection of hot puddings and cold desserts available, freshly prepared on this occasion by Steve including the traditional 'spotted dick'.
Additional deserts included hot apple & pear crumble, Bread & Butter pudding, Squidgy chocolate log, lemon Torte and The Lodge ice cream sundae.
To round off a perfect meal came the pots of tea and coffee with mints and of course the option to upgrade to a liqueur coffee - topped with fresh double cream.
Everything was beautifully served by young and courteous staff in a warm and comfortable setting. A special mention must be made of the wine locally supplied by Halfpenny Green vineyard which was excellent!
